     ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Changing the Millstones at a working Grade II * Listed Tide Mill constructed circa 1790 – an amazing building that is functional and produces flour from the grinding French Burr millstones powered by the force of the water. There is single track toll bridge over the water which can provide a 20-minute reduction in travel time in the local vicinity.

Like most buildings, a tide mill does not escape the passage of time and

therefore maintenance. Whilst the structure and fabric of the building has

been reasonably maintained, to the extent the mill is a public attraction and

offers an ‘experience’, the working innards are equally important to be

maintained.

Project Services:

We were commissioned to assist in the delivery for replacement of the tide millstones (the stones are a set of two large 1 tonne heavy discs that rotate

to grind grain into flour – made and delivered from Holland).

This was a challenge!

On behalf of the client, we: -

  • Liaised with a local traffic control and management company specifically  pertaining to road closure signs and diversions.

  • Supported local traffic control for the notification of the pending road closure  (withing a 3-mile radius).

  • Completed Listed Building Consent for the removal and reinstatement of a window, including establishing a methodology and assessment for such.

  • Discharged conditions on the road closure notice.

  • Monitored the replacement of the Millstones to ensure smooth operation and that damage was not incurred to the Grade II* Listed Building (a condition of the Listed Building Consent).

At LBC Ltd we work closely with our clients, and Town Council clients are no exception. With several completed commissions, from refurbishment of a leisure centre and community centre facilities, defects analysis and reporting, roof re-covering work and remodelling of the internal environment, this project like those was successful.
